Founded in 1952, the New York Institute is the first institute dedicated to the exploration and development of Gestalt therapy. We flourish as a unique teaching and learning community whose membership now extends worldwide. Educating about foundational Gestalt therapy is our primary mission. Teachers in NYIGT’s Educational Program are full members of the Institute with extensive experience in the practice and teaching of Gestalt therapy. Many have published articles, chapters and books on Gestalt therapy and its applications.

Our courses provide the opportunity for reorienting and mobilizing perception, examining our relationships to environment and each other, and directing energies so as to feel, think and act more effectiely in revitalizing personal and professional growth.
Our dynamic approach includes discussion and experiential learning within a small group setting. We use interactive exercises which can undo blocks and promote creativity. The group is a ground for education as faculty and students learn from one another. We will address students’ specific areas of interest through a teaching/ learning process.
In our Fundamentals course we will explore foundational concepts in Gesalt therapy and their application to everyday life. These include
• Emergent Self
• Creative Adjusting
• Body Awareness
• Organism/Environment Field
• Contacting
• Interruptions to Contacting
• Holism
